On Saturday Sarah Jane and Alex were married at the famous Farm Street Church in Mayfair, central London. I met Alex and his entourage of ushers at Franco’s restaurant in Jermyn Street after their champagne breakfast. We walked to the church and although Saturday was cold thankfully the rain held off until much later in the day. The three bridesmaids arrived at a little before midday, and Sarah Jane and her father were fashionably late and arrived at the church a little after midday.
Sarah Jane and Alex live and work in Hong Kong and we met up in June this year while they were over in the UK on holiday. They are a great couple and had a very clear idea that their wedding was to be a pre Christmas party as well as a family celebration. It was difficult to imagine a christmas celebration back then in June but they certainly pulled it off on Saturday.
The Caledonian Club is an excellent central London venue for weddings. Many venues like this I’ve found over the years have gone from having a fairly ambivalent attitude to the expectations of a bride and groom to being ‘totally switched on’ to the requirements of a modern couple. The Caledonian Club is such a venue. They were excellent.
I left Sarah Jane and Alex about an hour after their first dance and I really enjoyed my day with them, they have great bunch of friends and family are they are a brilliant couple. They are off on honeymoon to South Africa this week and back in the New Year.

Julia and James are scientists and met at university while studying physics, and James is now working for Microsoft in Seattle. Julia will move over to the states in a couple of weeks to join James. They came to see me earlier in the year to talk through their plans and they were excited, as scientists, that they were able to book The Royal Institution of Great Britain for their wedding and reception.
On Friday at 12.30pm. I met with Julia, her parents, her sister and bridesmaids at their flat in Kennington and drove with them in their cars to the RI. The ceremony was held on one on the libraries upstairs and then drinks were served next door. The RI have only recently started doing weddings and it is a great venue. It’s been refurbished to a very high standard and there is science everywhere to look at.
As the guests made their way down the grand staircase to the reception rooms below for the meal they threw confetti, and Julia and James were covered in rose petals by the time they reached the bottom. The photograph above was taken outside next to one of the cars Julia arrived in with her father.
I stayed until just after the first dance, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them and their family and friends.

On Saturday Ellie and George were married at St. Giles in the Fields Church near Covent Garden in London. I met Ellie with her family in her room at the RAC in Pall Mall in central London at 2pm for some getting ready photographs. George had told me when I spoke to him last Tuesday that the dress was big. Ellie is a tall, very attractive girl, and she looked fabulous. George was right, the dress was big. We were able to use the balconies and the the grand spaces inside the RAC for some great photos before I left at 3pm for the church.
This is the first of my Christmas weddings this year, carols were sung at the ceremony, and the choir in the church made it all the more special for Ellie and George. Two Routemaster Double decker buses took the 120 guests from the church to One Great George Street where the reception was held.
One Great George Street is one of the smartest wedding venues in London. The Toastmaster arranged all of the guests at the bottom of the staircase, I took photographs from the floor above while the staff threw confetti down onto them. When reception venues are ‘tuned in’ to the finishing touches it makes all the difference to the wedding photography.
Shortly after I took the photograph at the top of this post at about 10pm I left Ellie on the dance floor twirling around in her dress with George. They are off to Thailand on their Honeymoon. I really enjoyed my day with them and look forward to designing their album with them in January.

On Saturday at 2pm Becky and Tim were married at the oldest catholic church in England, St. Etheldreda’s in Ely place in the City of London. I first met them in spring this year to discuss their wedding photography and shortly afterwards they took advantage of my free pre wedding photo shoot. Although they both live very near me they had, for the convenience of friends and family, booked the church and reception venue in central London. They are also regular parishoners at the church.
On Saturday at midday I met up with Becky and her bridesmaids at the Threadneedles Hotel to take some photographs of them getting ready, and then at 1pm I left with the boys in a cab to the church. The bridesmaids were dropped off at 1.45pm and Becky arrived soon after with her father in a white London taxi. The service was one of the most beautiful I’ve been to all year. The rain held off and although it was windy we were able to take plenty of relaxed group photographs outside the church before the three of us headed off in the white taxi for some photographs around some London landmarks. The photograph of Becky and Tim above was taken just as they came out of the church.
The reception was held at Gibson’s Hall at 13 Bishpsgate London. Drinks were served in the Garden Room and the guests moved into the Ballroom for the wedding breakfast. The party was in full swing when I left at about 9.30pm, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Becky and Tim, and their families and friends. They are taking their honeymoon in California and the Hawaii, and return to the UK two weeks before Christmas, “And then on the 23rd of December we’ll be on holiday again” said Tim.

I first met Rachel and Gordon at the Wedding show I did in February this year, and they contacted me in August to book me as their Wedding photographer. Rachel is from Zimbabwe and Gordon is English, and together managed to attract guests from all over the world.
I met up with Rachel, her sister and cousin, parents and little nephews at the Apex hotel very near The Tower of London. I then joined the men down at Tower bridge for some fun photography with The Tower of London, Tower Bridge and City Hall across the river in the background. It gave the guys something to do and calm the nerves at least before they headed off to St. Paul’s Church in Shadwell. I joined the girls back at the hotel and left for the church with the bridesmaids.
The ceremony was intimate as Rachel is a well known parishioner at the church. Tea was served at the church and shortly afterwards Rachel, Gordon and myself took a cab to to South Bank for some more photographs. Newly married brides and grooms rarely have any time to themselves after the ceremony, they are surrounded by their guests and it’s difficult to get good photographs on their own. I always suggest that we spend 10-15 minutes away from the group and with Rachel and Gordon we took a number of shots very similar to the one above. The three of us rejoined the group at Tower pier and boarded the ‘Pride of London’ for the reception.
We finished off the rest of the group photographs on the boat with the London skyline in the background, and the party started. Rachel and Gordon’s carefully chosen playlist had everyone on the dance floor and I think this was the best party I’ve seen all year. I really enjoyed my day with Rachel and Gordon, they are a fantastic couple and I hope to see them again soon.
